Fire Signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius

Element is the oldest sorting device in astrology, older than most of the personality language layered on top of it. The four elements come out of Greek natural philosophy, where they described what a thing was made of and therefore how it behaved. Astrology kept the logic: an element is not a mood, it is a fuel. It tells you what a sign burns to keep going.

Fire burns attention and momentum. A fire sign is at its best when something is beginning, when there is a reason to move and someone watching. Fire signs court openly. They tend to say what they want early, which reads as refreshingly clear to some people and as too much too fast to others. They are rarely the ones playing a long silent game — if a fire sign has gone cold, that is usually the whole message.
